I got “Blindsided”

A recent conversation with Gideon:

G-“Dad, when can I get signed up for football?”

Me: “Soon, son. You’ll make a great player. You’ve definitely got the body type for football. We just have to work on your heart. You’ve got a soft-heart.

G: “Yeah, I’ve got a soft heart. ”

Me: “A soft-heart is great son, but if you want to play football you have to learn to get aggressive and run through people. That’s hard for you to do right now.

G: (Tears coming down his face)

Me: “What’s wrong Son?”

G: “I don’t want to play football anymore!”

Me: “Why?”

G: “I don’t want to lose my soft heart!”

Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, just as God in Christ has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32

Moral of the Story– Forget football. Give me a tender-hearted son any day. Football can be taught, the other is evidence of God’s grace in a sinner’s heart.

Secondary moral of the story- Buy “The Blind Side” and watch it with Gideon every month for the next 10 years.

first rule of football: suck it up and quit crying.

Great post. I love my nephew…but my retirement plan is based on him becoming an all start athlete and hiring his uncle to build him a great big house where we all can live.

Back to football…just put a helmet on him and grab him by the face mask and tell him to protect “the family”.

See you in the seats on the 50 yard line
